NAPOLEONFISH

Your homework was checked. Exercises on reported speech in your grammars, pages 113 and on. Easter holidays are getting closer and closer and I can´t help working with activities related to the topic. Leasure and outdoor activities some more challenging than others.
Discussion in pairs to show preferences about trekking, sightseeing, scuba diving and sunbathing We carried on with the sort of holiday competitions one may come across on the Internet by means of sending a multiple choice questionnaire: a week in Las Vegas, Hollywood, Portugal and a walking tour somewhere in Europe and the possibility of entering these competitions .Then, a listening activity with a couple talking about the topic and their chances of winning with an unexpected end.The sort of activities beeing carried out in the last weeks have been taken from different sources, so, if you haven´t come to class lately, you ought to ask your mates.
For homework next Wednesday some more rephrasing, a handout with exam practice.
This is a Napoleonfish, one of the most impressive I´ve ever seen as the male can reach two metres in length .It´s also striking the beautiful bright blue, greenish colours it has. With thick, fleshy lips ,they look as if they had undergone cosmetic surgery. They also have a hump overhanging their forehead between their eyes, like Napoleon´s "hat".The good thing about this fish is that they are curious and easy to approach, you can attract them with a plastic glass making crankling sounds. They may live up to 30 years, very old and, like many other fish, they change sex from female to male.

CAMOUFLAGE

Your homework about reported speech was reviewed andI wanted to focus on reporting verbs such as threaten,warn,advise,explainbeg,boast.. because it´s the heart of the matter this year. You were given a handout with more rephrasing and introductory verbs to be done next week along with some oral activities for practice.
Then a word building activity in your books on page 73 titled A Journey from Hell. In fact, it is made up of three exercises. Apart from these word building activities I am interested in your doing exercises 3,4 and 5 on page 44 in your workbook about the same topic.
My subconscious must have betrayed me because the following activity was about holidays, as days before; but this time we dealt with ecotourism in three exotic places. A first chart to fill after having listened to one of the descriptions. The filling of the remaining places was done in pair work by means of reading one student the description of a resort and and the other filling the gaps. Then you listened to four people speak about their personal preferences about the three resorts.
Homework for Thursday: Grammar ,page 111 number 18, page 112.
numbers 21,22 and 23.
A LISTENING ACTIVITY FOR THURSDAY

Can you make out anything on this rock? What does "that thing" look like? Well, it is a Papilloculiceps longiceps or crocodilefish. Living on he bottom on the rocks and sand , they are predators very well camouflaged to ambush their preys when they least expect it.They can reach a length of 70 cm and are carnivorous.Don´t dare to touch them!

THANK YOU

First of all, let me congratulate my fourth year stutents for their valuable contribution to the success of the Scrabble held last Thursday. Isabel and Jimena, Alba twin and Lorena twin, Alba Rodriguez and Victor and last but not least Alejandro and Emilio (the latter for his support). But for you, the game would have been doomed to failure.
THANK YOU AGAIN
We went through the exercises you had for homework focussing on doubts and uncertain aspects of Reported Speech: expressions with Say and Tell ,eg: say a few words, say a prayer or tell sb the way, tell one from another. We went on to deal with modal verbs and introductory verbs .It is really an essential issue ,that is, introductory verbs to reporting such as claim, demand, forbid, insist on, explain and so on. They are on page 109, chapter 7. The next oral activities to be done in the future will be based on these reporting verbs, so you´ll have more practice.
A nice, pleasant oral activity about the different kinds of holiday people can enjoy : culture vultures in search of museums and art galleries, on the beach sunbathing and doing adventure sports. As the term is about to finish daydreaming isn´t that bad, it may come true after all.
Then a listening activity related to the same topic. Some people discuss these three ways of enjoying their holidays with thier reasons to do so.
Homework for Wednesday: grammar ,pages 107,108 and 110. I´m still waiting for some of you to make your speeches!

A LISTENING ACTIVITY ON THURSDAY
